I just noticed that I haven't put anything up here since my baby was born. My daughter was born in December and it is now June. She has grown so much and she is amazing!
I haven't taken the time that I should to write like I want to. I love to write, but I don't do it unless I make myself do it. I've also started blogging for my church some, which is an entirely different kind of writing. Here I'm just going for the thoughts that have popped in my head and I can't quite shake.
For me, I've been thinking a lot about small groups. Right now, I work in a larger church, and we do not have any formalized small groups/discipleship groups. We have recognized this as an issue, and we are working on putting something together. It got me thinking, though, that maybe small groups is more ecclesial than a large worship service. Don't get me wrong. Worshiping together is wonderful, meaningful, beautiful expression of our love and thanks to God. But it seems to me that the church is supposed to be more intimate than that.
In the Eucharistic liturgy the pastor says make us "one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all of the world." (somewhere in the United Methodist Hymnal). To me being one with each other seems more likely and more meaningful with a small group. Maybe the ecclesiology of a large church should be focused on small groups. Maybe the church is a collection of smaller groups, which fits together as a whole. A confederacy... a federation?
Just some random thoughts. What do you think?
